Saving All Over The Store
"They say you don’t need to reinvent the classics, but we had a lot of fun re-recording one of our greatest hits for M&S. Even took it for a spin in their Purley Way store not far from me and everyone loved it. All thanks to a suggestion from a lovely lad called Jack – apparently he’s done several ‘viral’ videos about how good value M&S Food is, so we thought we’d beat him at his own game.” Francis
Piledriver whisky
Introducing: Status Quo’s Piledriver Blended Malt is a limited edition whisky bottling celebrating fifty years of the band’s acclaimed 1972 album Piledriver.
The 7-Year-Old Blended Malt whisky was specially chosen by Francis Rossi and Status Quo, under the tutelage of famed ex-Edrington blender Max Mcfarlane, to celebrate this impressive milestone in the band’s history, while capturing the spirit of this iconic musical era.
With delicate notes of Oloroso sherry cask, rich marzipan, and a slightly higher ABV, this whisky is equally suited for a night rocking out with old pals or spending a quiet one with your favourite records.
Limited to 500 bottles. On sale: Friday 8 December, 10 am: https://caskadedrinks.com/products/status-quo-piledriver
A Perfect 10 from Status Quo founder
Francis Rossi is delighted to announce a Limited Edition 10” vinyl release. The ‘Tunes & Chat’ mini album, that celebrates four of his best loved songs, will be out on 22 September 2023. Available exclusively from francisrossi.com, with only 1000 copies in this pressing, pre-orders are live now. The run-off groove features the lyric quote from ‘Rock ’N’ Roll’: “We can pray, what we say, makes a difference in the end”.
‘Tunes & Chat’ features alternate takes on four Status Quo favourites, all written by Francis Rossi and Bob Young. ‘Spinning Wheel Blues’ and ‘April Spring Summer and Wednesdays’, both originally on 1970’s ‘Ma Kelly’s Greasy Spoon’ album, ‘In My Chair’, a non-album single from the same year, plus ‘And It’s Better Now’ from 1973’s ‘Hello!’.
Francis said of the release, “These are songs that mean a lot to me, and I wanted to revisit them. I’ve been doing just that on the ‘Tunes & Chat’ tour but I was keen to show them some more love. Collectors and lovers of Quo have always treasured vinyl editions and so do I; this record sounds and looks fantastic – the 10” format feels really special. The songs have been recorded in an informal but affectionate way, with some of the studio chatter retained. It’s been interesting to pick out a handful of favourites from my history and get to know them again more than 50 years down the line. Who knows, I might do it again.”
